Solheim Cup

Overview

The Solheim Cup is a biennial golf tournament for professional women golfers contested by teams representing Europe and the United States and is the premier international team competition in women’s golf alternating years with the Ryder Cup (the equivalent men’s event).. The cup is played over three days. Since 2002, there have been 28 matches—eight foursomes and eight four-balls played on days 1 and 2, and 12 singles on the final day. This format is also used in the Ryder Cup.

IMG has been appointed to stage the 2019 Solheim Cup, which took place at Gleneagles, by VisitScotland, on behalf of the Scottish government. One of the requests we received was to create a responsive live scoring page design. The time allocated for this project was about two weeks and as the sole designer for this project I’ve been given full control over the design. In the first stage I did some research into golf and the tournaments as well as looking into best UI/UX practices used for similar purposes.

In the second stage after collecting and comparing all the informations I started building the design. Due to time constrains I started designing straight in high fidelity UX/UI. The goal was to make a straight, clean and simple design where the spectators can instantly see the live overall results while they can easily search for specific player performances. We designed a responsive landing page made of UI components, assets, buttons, lists, and set up the typography and the colour palette. We used two primary colours to signal the two countries as well as a few secondary colours.

The project needed a great attention to detail in order to be user friendly while effective in providing the live updates of the progress of the competition progress. We have build the designs using sketch and then prepared the designs for the developers.
